A New Global Power: Girls with Books

March 8 is International Women's Day, when the world recognises women, their achievements and the importance of standing up for their rights and calling global citizens to action.

A woman is a greater asset to her family, community and economy if she is educated. If every woman in the world had finished secondary school, the lives of 200,000 women who die in childbirth would be saved.

And each and every additional year in school increases a woman's income by 10% or more.

At A World at School, we are excited to mark International Women's Day by releasing our new video, New Global Power: Girls with Books, which shows the growing global movement campaigning for all girls to realise their right to an education.

Please help mark #IWD2014 by:

  • Sharing the video on Facebook or Twitter to tell the story of the girls who are helping to build A World at School.
  • Signing up - at the top of this page - to join the movement who aim to get every girl and boy into school and learning.
  • Joining us for a Google Hangout on March 12 with girls' education advocates from around the world. RSVP here.
  • Donate to Theirworld - and help support the campaign to build A World at School.
